Abstract:Thispaperrevealsanoveldispersionpensatingphotoniccrystalfiber(DC-PCF)forwide-bandhigh-speedtransmissionsystems.Thefinite-differencemethodwithananisotropicperfectlymatchedabsorbinglayersboundaryconditionisusedtoinvestigatetheguidingproperties.ThedesignednovelDC-PCFshowsthatitispossibletoobtainalargernegativedispersioncoefficient,betterdispersionslopepensation,andconfinementlosseslessthan104dB/mintheentireS+C+Ltelemunicationbandbyusingamodestnumberofdesignparameters.Theproposedmodulecanbeusedin40Gb/sdensewavelengthdivisionmultiplexing(DWDM)systemsinopticalfibermunicationworks.

Abstract:Shortwavelengthfilteringbasedontheanti-guidepropertyofadepressed-indexcorephotoniccrystalfiberisstudied.Atypeoffiberfilterisformedbyaddingadepressed-indexdomaintothecoreofanindex-guidingphotoniccrystalfiber.Thedependenciesofnormalizedcutoffwavelengthandedgesteepnessonthestructuralparametersofthefiberfilterareinvestigated.Abetterqualityofcutoff(loweredgesteepness),alargernormalizedcutoffwavelengthandawiderrangeofnormalizedcutoffwavelengthcanberealizedbyincreasingtherelativecladdingair-holediameter.Fiberfilterswiththenormalizedcutoffwavelength(cutoffwavelength/pitch)covering0.0514to0.5andtheedgesteepnessbelow5%(industrystandard)aredemonstratednumerically.Inaddition,bendingeffectandproblemcausedbytheexistenceofthephotonicbandgapmodewhichmayinfluencethefeasibilityofthefilteringmechanismareconsidered.

Abstract:Weproposeanoveltunablephotoniccrystalfiber(PCF)couplerscheme,thatthelightiscoupledbetweenatotalinternalreflection(TIR)guidingcoreandaphotonicbandgap(PBG)guidingcore.Byintroducingthethermo-opticresponsivenematicliquidcrystals(NLC)intotheairholesaroundthePBGcore,thehybridPCFbasedcouplerexhibitsenhancedthermaltunability.Thethermo-opticalcharacteristicsoftheproposedcouplerarenumericallystudiedusingfiniteelementmethod(FEM)andbeampropagationmethod(BPM).Theproposeddesigncanfindpromisingapplicationsinfilteringandsensingdevices.

Abstract:Wereportanoveldesignofphotoniccrystalfiber(PCF)witharectangulararrayoffourclosely-spaced,highlyellipticalairholesinthecoreregionandacircular-air-holecladding.TheproposedPCFisabletosupportultra-widebandsingle-polarizationsingle-mode(SPSM)transmissionfromthevisiblebandtothenearinfraredband.Withtheaidoftheinnercladdingformedbythecentralairholes,onepolarizationofthefundamentalmodecanbecutoffatveryshortwavelengthsandultra-widebandSPSMpropagationcanbeachieved.TheinnercladdingalsosuppressesthehigherordermodesandallowslargeairfillingfractionintheoutercladdingwhiletheproposedfiberremainsSPSM,whichsignificantlyreducesthemodeeffectiveareaandtheconfinementloss.OursimulationresultsindicatethattheproposedPCFhasa1540nmSMSPrangewith<,0.25dB/kmconfinementlossandaneffectiveareaof2.2μm2.Moreover,thegroupvelocitydispersion(GVD)oftheproposedPCFcanalsobetunedtobeflatandnearzeroatthenearinfraredband(800nm)byoptimizingtheoutercladdingstructure,potentiallyenablingmanynonlinearapplications.
