sequentiallycarboxymethylchitosan(CM-chitosan)wasquaternizedtoobtainQCM-chitosan.QCM-chitosan'sstructurewascharacterized.GPC-LLSwereusedtoanalyzeitsweight-averagemolecularweight(M-w),andthedegreeofsubstitution(DS)wasdeterminedbytitration.ThethermalstabilityofQCM-chitosanwasmeasuredbyTGA.TheresultsprovedthatQCM-chitosanwassynthesized.Themaximumdegreeofsubstitution(DS)ofcarboxymethylgroupsandquaternaryammoniumgroupsundertheoptimumreactionconditionwas0.82and0.48,respectively.Comparedtochitosan,thethermalstabilityofQCM-chitosandecreasedbecauseofdisintegrationofintermolecularhydrogenbondingandpartialbreakingofthemolecularstructure,moreover,asDSofquaternaryammoniumandcarboxymethylgroupsincreased,QCM-chitosanshowedlowerthermalstability.Insummary,themicrowaveirradiationmethodisarapidandenvironmentallyfriendlyprocesstosynthesizesolublechitosanderivatives.
