Roboydoesn’tlooksolovelyatthemoment.Infact,itlooksmorelikeacybskeletonthanacharmingchild,butit’sstillaworkinprogress.Thelaboratory’sgoalistobuildRoboyinonlyninemonths.WorkbeganinJune2012with15projectpartnersandover40engineersandscientists.Thesepartiesareprovidingexpertiseandfundsthroughsponsorshipandcrowdfundingthatincludesauctioningspaceontherobotforlogos,andhiringitoutforbusinessfunctionswhenpleted.
ThepurposeofRoboyistopushfortheacceptanceofservicerobotsbymakingpeoplemorefortablehavingthemaroundallthetime.Withanagingpopulation,AILabbelievesthatsuchservicerobotswillbeincreasinglyimportantinhelpingtheelderlytocontinueindependentlives.
