Cisco 7500 系列路由器是Cisco公司主要的高端多协议路由器平台,它包括cisco 7505,cicso 7507和cisco 7513.它是在7000 系列路由器的基础上进一步提高了性能,增强了可靠性,可用性及实用性,扩大了能支持的网络规模,为企业网络提供了安全,可靠,稳定的性能.它与7000 系列的模块完全兼容,保护了用户的投资.业界领先的Cisco IOS 使它支持所有LAN 和WAN 的接口,优化WAN 服务,控制网际访问,进行数据的压缩和加密.它可用于交换虚拟网的路由,网络多媒体应用,IBM 网络和主机互连,Internet 网络主干和访问层节点,通过高速WAN 的客户机/服务器应用等各种网络环境.

Cisco 7505 具有一个高速的Cisco Extended 总线(Cybus);Cisco 7507和Cisco 7513具有双重的Cybus 总线.在各种接口模板上的网络接口提供了总线与外界网络的直接互连,并且支持各种ATM ,channelized T3,Ethernet,Fast Ethernet,FDDI,IBM channel attachment,multichannel E1和T1,synchonous serial,Token Ring,Packet OC-3.更多的信息请参阅"7000 系列的接口处理板".

Cisco 7500 系列可靠性,可用性和实用性包括以下几点:

带电拔插(OIR)----无需重起系统或脱机就可以更换新的接口板,无需操作员的干预,因为它是自动重新配置的.

可选择的双电源供给系统(只对Cisco 7507 和Cisco 7513)----额外的独立电源提供负载平衡.

Flash memory----实现快速,可靠的软件和微码(micromode)升级.

Cisco 7500 系列路由器IOS 主要包括四种类型:IP Routing, IP/IPX/IBM , Desktop/IBM 和Enterprise.不同类型的软件支持的协议多少不同,依次IP Routing 最少, Enterprise 支持协议最多.

能够支持的协议包括:
局域网:Apollo Domain, AppleTalk 1 and 2, Banyan VINES, DECnet IV, DECnet V,GRE, IRB, IP, Novell IPX, VLANs(ISL and IEEE 802.1), XNS.
